Book of Intentions: An Abcedarium
Friday May 16th 10 am - 5 pm
Cost $120 (keeping at this early discount pricing since I was busy hosting Keith and forgot to remind you about the deadline!)
Children were taught their alphabet in the 1800s using a book called an abecedarium-with each letter representing a certain animal or object.
Fast forward to the 21st century and take an altered approach to this-with a book of intentions. We’ll create a wholly personal alphabet book with each page a different letter and a affirmation.
This may take us to a pretty sensitive place-but your art should always reflect you, the artist. Where are you with your art? What do you wish for? What are your most secret dreams?
We’ll start by painting and writing on canvas for our pages. Fabric and paper collage, calligraphic writing, stamping , layering and mark making. Mostly just creative intuitive play.
We’ll adhere these fabric pages to one long piece of lightweight material and fold them in accordion style. The end pages of the book will be tucked into a stripped and pieced fabric cover, ( No sewing machine is necessary) Top stitching and finishing can be done later-
It will probably be an ongoing project for you-I’m only to the letter P!
This book will be featured in the June 2008 issue of Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion
